I have lived in Berkhamsted for over 24 years—it is the town where in 1066, William of Normandy became William the Conqueror on accepting the submission of the Saxons, who didn’t want to see London ruined.

 

I am the secretary for the Berkhamsted Local History & Museum Society and I have transcribed a Berkhamsted Constables’ Accompts Book from 1748; article published in the Society Chronicle, Vol III and can be seen here...
